Its amazing how we all love different things. One person might be a  minimalist while others love being brazen and brash, I might love neutrals while you want a pop of colour.

I’m currently trying out an experiment on my etsy store, I’m creating all sorts of jewellery to see which is appealing to the market (or those who view my store). I am for minimalist and special, so I originally created simple yet stylish pieces that could be worn all day, everyday but could also double as night wear. An example is my Lulu piece pictured below

even though the world should take style ideas from me, lol, it seems the trending crave is big, bold and chunky. I would not have made anything closely related to big, bold or chunky but as usual I’m strapped for cash. I spent most of it acquiring silver smithing tools and my only means for indulging in my passion to create was to put all my spare beads crystals and accessories to good use and this led to my making the Grape Vine Necklace.

I normally would not wear this piece although I made it with the utmost care and appreciation of the colours, the aesthetics and the wearability of the piece. So I made it, uploaded it on my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/baiyejewellery and went to sleep. I woke up to rave reviews and messages in my inbox, the surprise was someone was inquiring whether it was for sale. Rave in my case is 20 friends but compared to the other responses I get this was a bucket load. I have a feeling people just see the items on my updates smirk and scroll down to something more interesting,  so this was great.

I have therefore decided not to ‘colour’ my pieces with my personal judgement, I dont have to be able to wear everything I make, male jewellery designers can obviously not be wearers of all their pieces.

One mans meat……is another mans poison.

D@AC? is it a noun? a verb? a formula?

Let me put you out of your misery………………. it is a Nigerian Watch brand owned by two lovely ladies, Busola Akomolede and Bola Anibaba.

D@AC stands for ‘DAT Akomolede Chic’, I came across this article on Hilltop247 and fell in love with the watches.

They got a full range of Male and Femal watches here.

My favourite is called Metro Woman, I prefer it in the Chrono Blue version, which is one of the 8 colours available, why don’t you check them out here.

I’m really impressed by what the present crop of young people are doing in the various industries, these watches are Swiss made and go at pocket friendly prices in comparison to their counterparts of the same quality.

Just though I’d share.

What’s your taste in Watches?

I have been searching for inspiration for my jewellery, so started looking into all things African……I know coral is the bead of choice but I’m a fan for clear cut stones, cabochons and gems. So I realised I would have to look for inspiration else where.

Africans just looove colour, it is seen in their outfits, headties and fabrics, so one of the point to note was colour. I decided to go on YouTube to look at African fashion shows and trends and ended up watching all of Chris Aire’s shows and collections. I loved the Chris Aire Hollywood Glamour Collection Spring 2011, one necklace in particular that caught my eye; it is a multi strand necklace with an amazing mesh of colour and guess what? they were clear stones. Look out for it at 3.27 0f the video (oooo I love me some Chris Aire) ……….

……..then it struck me, Why don’t I design jewellery with colour schemes that match the ever versatile Ankara Fabric. Genious!

Each ankara design is just so versertile, colourful and unique, it would be quite a challenging task but that’s exactly what I’m looking for.

While searching for ankara designs, I found out that there’s a company in Middlesex called Middlesex Textiles who make the prints and would deliver the fabrics to me in the UK, yay!!!!

I’ll just have to decide whether I’m going to purchase these fabrics first, so they can be made into outfits for the photo shoot of each pieces or shall I just randomly create from the styles and designs I come across?

hmmmmn, well here are a few samples I fell in love with, I’ll come up with a few designs and update you in a bit.

XOXO
